The new Hopetoun Power Station has been commissioned, after successfully passing the stringent Horizon Power test schedule.
Powercorp in conjunction with Verve Energy have revisited the successful power station upgrade done in 2004 by installing a whole new power station – this time designed from the ground up to take advantage of the world-leading wind integration technologies available from Powercorp.
The station began to produce power for the community of Hopetoun at the beginning of the initial 7 day reliability period on the 23/5, thus marking the end of power generation at the old Hopetoun power station, located in the town. The 7 day reliability period was passed successfully, and we continue to see reliable operation within the 60 day reliability period until now, which is approximately 30 days into this final project phase.
The new power station encompasses seven 320kW LLD generators (one of which Verve are conducting tests by operating with bio-diesel), the Main Distribution Board and the SMS system which controls automatic operation of the station, including control of 2 x 600kW Enercon E40 Wind Turbines, one of which is new.
The community of Hopetoun will continue to see vast fuel savings brought about by high wind penetration and Powercorp’s sophisticated Wind/Diesel technology. The new power station capacity will also meet the demands of the fast growing community now, and into the future.
