With over 20 years of experience in remote power generation and control, Powercorp has built a strong knowledge base and reputation as the world leader in the design and implementation of remote power solutions. Our products let you build a power supply that is more reliable, lower cost and shock proofed against rising oil costs.

Wind & Diesel Turnkey Solutions
With over a decade of experience on four continents, Powercorp is the world leader in the wind/diesel industry. From greenfield turnkey solutions including diesel generator and wind turbine procurement to high penetration integration packages for existing and future sites, Powercorp can do it all.

With offices and projects located from the Northern Territory of Australia where temperatures often climb over 40C (100 F) and Alaska where the mercury can fall below -40C (-40 F), Powercorps solutions are suitable for all environments.

Our in-house engineering capabilities allow us to comprehensively model, design and complete every aspect of your wind diesel requirements.

Solar Diesel Turnkey Solutions
After establishing ourselves as the world leaders in wind diesel integration technologies, we have turned our engineering capabilities to establishing solutions for solar diesel applications. Whether it’s PV, thermal or high temperature PV, Powercorp grid stabilising and automation will provide the solution.

Wind Farm Construction
Powercorp has its own Wind Farm Construction Group, capable of constructing multiple projects in parallel. We have been working on wind farm tendering and implementation of wind power projects since 1996, providing full project management and turnkey installation service, ranging from site evaluation through to commissioning, with the option of full life support service.

PowerStore
The PowerStore is a very rapid energy source and sink system based on a modern flywheel and bi directional inverter. Energy that is required to prevent under frequency is drawn from the flywheel. The PowerStore can achieve 1MW in 5 msec, alternatively the system can absorb energy surges at the same rate and prevent grid conditions being driven out of utility specifications.

To date the PowerStore has been used in the wind diesel and mining industries. Powercorp are currently investigating its capabilities in the solar diesel, rail and industrial industries.

Automation and Control
Our system enables a power station to operate automatically without human intervention, except for monitoring, maintenance of plant and fuel supplies.

Our system automatically controls and monitors all diesel and/or gas generator sets, consumer feeders and fuel tanks in a power station. It provides alarm/event reporting, trending, remote access and external alarm notification.

Depending on system load conditions, our controllers start and stop generators to optimise station fuel efficiency. The system maintains optimum loading and spinning reserve on all in-service generator sets. Power management continuously monitors the feeder load and matches the most economical configuration of the generator sets to the demand. By doing so it ensures that the following criteria are met:
• Maintaining the required spinning reserve
• Optimising the loading of generator sets
• Preventing low loading of generator sets
The system is based on an open controller hardware architecture. Embedded industrial PC hardware is used with distributed I/O to achieve mission critical and highly reliable power station control. The system is specifically designed for power station applications and can withstand temperatures between -40ºC and +50ºC.

Communications between the controllers, the generator sets and the consumer feeder circuit breakers takes place via fieldbus using the CAN protocol. The system enables fuel savings due to better loading of generator sets and fewer operation and maintenance costs due to much improved management of plant assets.

The system is able to control and monitor:
• Up to 8 Generator Controllers.
• Up to 6 Feeder Controllers.
• An additional 1 Feeder Controller for use as a Local Light and Power Meter.
• Up to 12 Bulk Fuel Storage Tanks.
• Up to 3 Temperature Measurement Inputs.

Testing and Modelling Facilities
The Control Systems Engineering Facility (CSEF) provides a 1:50 scale physical model of a small grid such as Denham, Nguiu and Mawson. POWERCORP products such as the Low Load Diesel, Dynamic Grid Interface and PowerStore are used directly in the system.

The CSEF uses real components and distribution topologies and is used for:
• Developing new products and systems including prototyping, implementation and testing.
• Training of operators and engineers including fault finding and tuning.
• Reproducing problems from the field using the CSEF so that problems can be analysed, solved and solutions tested before trying them in the field.

The CSEF is a vital part of the POWERCORP infrastructure, without it many of our projects would be difficult or impossible. In detail it provides:
• A 1:50 scale electrical system which allows us to test systems up to 1000kW.
• CSEF test genset Electric motors which replace the diesel engines in the full scale system.
• A distribution network including feeders, consumers and wind turbine generation.
• Control and communications using Powercorp products such as the GSS, FMS and SMS.
• A test control system which is used to control the consumer load on the system.

In particular:
• Update consumer load every second.
• Separate control of active and reactive power.
• Replay consumer data from the field.
• Control the wind speed in a manner similar to consumer load including playback of real data.
• Automatic testing using a simple scripting language.
