With the REDI grant awarded to Powercorp now underway, work is progressing full steam ahead on the initial tasks of the mammoth job. Many of the major components for the first test and development platform PowerStore1000 have been ordered and the new designs for container layouts and cabinet wiring are nearing completion.

In parallel with this, the design and certification of a high-voltage test area is progressing, which will allow Powercorp to test the new integral MV transformer design of PowerStore in a safe and controlled manner.

Powercorp’s Managing Director, Alan Langworthy had the following to say about the project:

“The REDI grant will allow Powercorp to leverage its existing knowledge, practical experience and previous hard work into the development of a world-leading energy storage system, suitable for use in multi-megawatt grid connected wind farms and other network hotspots.

The development of this product has the potential to allow a massive increase in the installation of clean renewable energy generation, including wind, in areas that were previously considered to be at or beyond capacity as well as in areas that would normally require extensive transmission upgrades to install any renewable energy generation.”

The REDI grant, a $4.6M dollar-for-dollar funding scheme is administered by AusIndustry, with an emphasis on enhancing the capabilities of existing energy storage techniques to meet the requirements of an ever-increasingly energy hungry world.

The PowerStore REDI project is a development by Powercorp to study the requirements of reinforcing the electrical network in close proximity to renewable energy generation and then to increase the capability of the current PowerStore product in order to be more effective in the role of suppressing fluctuations from grid connected wind turbine generators and other renewable energy generation devices.
